Located just a few steps from the shore of Lewisville Lake (no, really! they’re right at the entrace of Willow Grove Park on the lake!) is Miss Lively’s Cajun Connection. It’s like a little slice of rural bayou country, right here in Denton County!
The restaurant reminded me of one of those places that’s been around forever – a casual, cozy place that makes you comfortable from your first step inside.
Operated by Kevin Lively, he uses the old family recipes he helped his grandmother Edith make in her humble Louisiana kitchen. They use fresh ingredients for all their dishes, whether it be crawfish, boiled shrimp, gumbo or blackened fish. Homemade desserts include bread pudding, buttermilk pie and pecan cobbler.
I started simply, with a fried catfish basket accompanied by piping hot, crisp french fries. A deceptively modest dish, it’s often surprisingly difficult to execute as well as this was! The breading on the fish fillets was crunch corn meal batter, and the fillets themselves didn’t have the “muddy” taste you sometimes get.
I was also impressed by the tartar and remoulade sauces, which perfectly accentuated the meal. So much so, that I asked for more to substitute for ketchup for my fries!
Make your way to Miss Lively’s Cajun Konnection soon and take a short trip to Acadiana!
