Sprout’s Farmers Market

The idea of Sprout’s was to provide only the best foods and produce. They weren’t going to stock their shelves with the country’s top selling cereal, snacks, sodas, sweets, frozen foods and snacks. They were going to offer healthy, organic, clean food and household products. Today Sprout’s has become a favorite place for locals to shop. They offer prepared meals that make you proud to serve your family. They make shopping healthy easy and they make it affordable.

This story of freshness began in San Diego, California in 1943. It was then when Henry Boney began Sprouts’ healthy legacy of providing fresh foods at great prices to his customers. He had humble beginnings at his fruit stand in Southern California. He grew his business from one stand into a large grocery chain. He named his chain Henry’s Farmers Market and the name described his grocery store perfectly. His stores looked and were conducted just like a farmer’s market, with one perfect exception, everything was indoors!
In 1997, after a long successful business run, the Boney family sold Henry’s to Wild Oats. The chain was later sold to Smart & Final Holdings, owned by Apollo Global Management and that is when the idea to do something for the consumer came about.

In 2002 in Chandler, AZ the concept of “Healthy Living for Less” was born and acted upon. when Stan and Shon Boney, Henry’s son and grandson, opened the first Sprouts Farmers Market in Chandler, Ariz. The healthy grocery store featured the largest selection of fresh, natural and organic foods. One may find gluten-free, plant-based, grass-fed, non-GMO and raw items. These healthier choices and grocery items were offered at competitive prices. Sprout’s support local brands, including locally grown produce and meats. Sprout’s seeks farmers that are local, which means they are within the state or within 500 miles of the store.
