The first thing I noticed, was the kitchen sitting right out in the dining room, surrounded by glass partition. Everything was spotless and efficient. They call it Open Kitchen: No Secrets, on their website. You can watch them make your food. I’m a bit of a germ-a-phobe and this was heavenly. The manager showed me around and the only thing in the back room is the dirty dishes and automatic dishwasher. The restaurant is decorated in a mixed European style, bright and open. The service is fantastic.
There is a large condiment bar so you can personalize your meal. You must try the pickles. I’m addicted to the pickles. There is a huge showcase filled with amazing sandwiches, salads and even chili, for instant take-away. They call it the Grab-n-Go section. No calling it in or waiting for it to be cooked. You could pick up a full meal and have it on the table in minutes.Their menu is a sandwich, pizza and salad mix. But they are not common versions but things like Grilled chicken pizza, shrimp remoulade, and 5-cheese, mac & cheese. Or there’s 6-cheese, pimiento with bacon, mac & cheese. Are you drooling yet?Newk’s was founded in 2004 by Don Newcomb, Debra Bryson, and Chris Newcomb, the people who brought you McAlister’s Deli!
Just to give you a reference point. They do catering and have an e-club. They also have 4 pizzas for $24.00 after 4:00 pm.In 2013, co-owner Lori Newcomb discovered she had Stage IIIC Ovarian Cancer. In 2014 she launched the Newk’s Cares initiate. In 5 years, they’ve raised one million dollars for Ovarian Cancer research. They have accomplished much more. Unfortunately, Mrs. Newcomb lost her battle in Feb. 2019, but the restaurant chain has continued to raise money, and support organizations dedicated to fighting this cancer. They have stores in Frisco, Plano, Irving and two in Fort Worth. So, no excuse to not eat at a Newk’s soon.
