Along Fort Worth’s famous Camp Bowie Boulevard sits an unassuming restaurant with a blue door. Inside, you’ll find some of the best Japanese food in town. Locals have loved coming to Tokyo Cafe since it first opened in 1997, and it continues to be a fan favorite among locals and travelers alike.
It’s truly a family business — Tokyo Café is run by the initial owner’s son, Jarry Ho, and his wife, Mary. Sometimes, you’ll see their kids helping on busy days, too. Everyone seems to enjoy the hustle and bustle that comes with the restaurant business, and they’ve gone above and beyond to make their cozy café one of a kind. Texas Highways writer June Naylor says it “feels like home”.
Although everything on the menu is worth a try (honestly, it’s all good), Tokyo Café is known for their Tok Fries. Those who like spicy appetizers will love these fresh-cut potatoes sprinkled with Japanese spices, served with a side of chili mayo. If you aren’t a fan of spice, don’t worry, there are app options for you, too: Bao Buns and Gyoza, just to name a few.
If you want to sample several of Tokyo Café’s tasty dishes, stop by for lunch on a weekday. From 11am – 3pm, they offer their Bento Lunch Special, where you can pick from a selection of Seseme Chicken, Sashimi, Chicken Teriyaki, various sushi rolls, Onigiri, Miso Soup, Cucumber Salad, and other delicious options.
Outside of their lunch special, Tokyo Café has great dishes to choose from, including ramen, noodles, rice bowls, and fish plates. You can view their full menu here. Want to enjoy dinner with a drink in hand? There’s a selection of Japanese whiskeys, beer, wine, and sake. The little restaurant faced a fire in 2014, but they came back strong two years later with a freshly renovated interior. Tokyo Café’s owners Jarry and Mary are also the locals behind Shinjuku Station, another Fort Worth favorite we all need to have on our must-try list.
