Spiral Diner and Bakery

Vegan restaurants in DFW are becoming easier and easier to come by. Amy McNutt opened Spiral Diner and Bakery, an all-vegan comfort food joint, in 2002, originally as a small lunch counter near the Dallas Convention Center. Two short years later, Spiral upscaled and relocated to Fort Worth, before opening second and third locations in Oak Cliff and Denton respectively.

Spiral Diner and Bakery has a retro diner feel with something on the menu for everyone. They serve dishes including burgers, sandwiches, nachos and other sides, breakfast all-day, and even desserts from their bakery!

I had the pleasure of trying the vegan bacon ranch cheeseburger, which was topped with crispy bacon, melty cheese, pickled red onions, lettuce, tomato, pickles, and ranch dressing on a buttered sesame seed bun. The bacon had an interesting texture, but otherwise tasted incredible. The burger was tender and tasted just like a beef patty.

Another tasty dish from Spiral is the Jamaican Jerk San’ich. This sweet and spicy jerk sandwich includes house-made breaded soy chicken strips topped with pineapple, served on Texas toast with mayo, lettuce, pickles, and pickled red onions. This sandwich has some serious heat to it, so approach with caution!

For those craving breakfast foods, you’ve come to the right place; Spiral serves breakfast all day from open to close! I tried the organic pancakes and added chocolate chips. These pancakes are made from scratch with organic flour, organic sugar, cinnamon, and spices. Spiral also offers gluten-free pancakes made from brown rice, tapioca, potato flour, organic sugar, cinnamon, and spices!
