Looking for mouthwatering bbq that has a Mexican flare? Look no further than Downtown Arlington for BBQ that is worth the wait of the line you will see outside. With traditional menu items like brisket and pork ribs to unique spins of birria tacos and tostada, you are sure to enjoy the many offerings of Hurtado BBQ.
This hot spot can be found on many “top BBQ” lists and is known for their delicious smoked meats, incredible sides, and spicy flare from their Mexican spin on this classic Texas fare. The restaurant is located close to the stadiums in Arlington, so it’s perfect for a pregame meal or when you’re just looking to enjoy some great food. We went on a Saturday and arrived shortly before they opened at 11 AM. There was already a decent sized line, so we grabbed parking around the building and hurried to get a spot. Since it can get quite warm in line, they did offer some shaded tents, water coolers, and a bar that was open for grabbing cool beverages while you waited.
They opened right at 11 AM, and the line moved fairly quickly. They do offer service throughout the day, but the restaurant will close early if they run out. I highly recommend arriving early to beat the wait, find parking, and make sure you don’t miss out on any of the delicious food. You can also beat the wait by ordering online ahead of time; They’ll your order ready to-go by the time you arrive. Since we wanted to eat at the restaurant, we went through the line and ate our meal on their large patio area.
After looking over their menu, I ordered the birria tacos stuffed with brisket and cheese and the corn elotes as a single side. My friends wanted straight bbq and ordered pork ribs, pulled pork, a hatch chili cornbread, and Hurtado Barbecue’s famous Texas Twinkies. After ordering our meal and sides we grabbed our number and spot on the patio. If you are looking to beat the heat, you can also sit indoors, but be prepared to wait for a table.
The wait for the patio was short and soon all of our food arrived table side. My tacos were crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. I loved that they included the braising liquid for dipping. They also packed some great heat and tasted wonderful with the creamy queso topped elotes. My friends enjoyed the smokey flavor of the meats they picked and the fun and spicy twinkies that are jalapeños stuffed with brisket and wrapped in bacon.
Everything from the atmosphere to the delicious food was amazing! If you are looking to try a new spot that packs flavor and heat, I highly recommend a visit to Hurtado Barbecue.
